for ben dixon on his 30th

July 9, 2008

Blue
The color of ocean depths and skies above
big yonder
of iguanas
and Hawaiis
and, of course, suede shoes.

Blue, sometimes, electric.
Yet, sometimes, sad.

Blue
Some sing the blues
got the blues
feeling blue
and like Ms. Holiday
a bluebird from Baltimore
I got the blues too
But I love em.

It's the color of your glowing eyes
crystalline and sparkling
with adoration, understanding, and peace.

They speak volumes
more than any two lips could ever conjure up
and they never lie
(like lips sometimes do)
They always shine like stars
and I stare up wherever I am
down in the depths
in the gutter
unsure of my best(next) move.

You got a blue-eyed soul
that brings me home
my north star shines blue
your eyes, my love, blue.

Hey, Blue, here is a song for you
a love song
that I'll never once sing off-key.
