I've been a big fan of James Victore for years. DWR's hosted his art exhibits in several of our Studios and just this year we commissioned him to design a surfboard for Tools for Living. And while we like the idea of keeping his designs to ourselves, we cannot help but feel a little proud when we see his work gain broader exposure. After all, he is family. Case in point: The above designed cover for Time’s issue featuring their annual list of the most influential people in the world. The magazine challenged graphic designers to submit their cover ideas and James made the top five. Even if I didn’t know him it would still be my favorite.

Ran 6 miles in the morning, worked, and then went back to the gym to lift weights. I’ve dropped a lot of weight and I have not been drinking so I am really enjoying getting back into the gym. Finally caught up with Greg Jacoby on the phone. He sounded good. Dinner with my Ben and Ben Roussel at The Smith. Yummy. Ben and I did photo booth pictures. Ralph is using them for our wedding invites. I wore my Ray-Bans and channeled Warhol in photo booth shots I’ve see of him wearing the same wayfarers.

Herb and cheese omelets, tomato salad, and multi grain toast for breakfast. Basar and Scott got on the road early. Basar has been a dear friend for a decade now. It was wonderful to spend quality time with both he and Scott. I miss them. Ben and I got the house in order and the sun finally came out! I drove home while Ben read and upon arriving in Manhattan I ran outside. Met Ben and Kristine Kern for Times Talk, where Deborah Solomon interviewed Tracy Ullman in an intimate theater. Being VIP (thanks NY Times) we had perfect seats. Ullman is hilarious and the interview was a pure delight. She grew up being told she looked like a troll doll. So true! Did Renee Zellweger and Arianna Huffington. Perfect.

When I went to search for a restaurant today on Google, I knew instantly what I was seeing: Jeff Koons’ take on the Google logo. The internet powerhouse has gotten search page makeovers from designers/artists as diverse as Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Graves and Dale Chihuly. Not only can users choose news, email and games for a personalized Google homepage, but now they can play an active role in its actual design. Pretty cool. My fave: Nigo, founder and owner of hip-hop clothing label A Bathing Ape.

Massimo Vignelli's somewhat-forgotten 1972 New York Subway map has been given new life thanks to Men’s Vogue. The iconic designer and his design team have updated the changes made to the subway system within the last 30 years and a limited run of 500 posters have been printed. Each is signed by Vignelli and available through Condé Nast, with each sale benefiting Green Worker Cooperatives , a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating worker-owned and environmentally sound cooperatives in the South Bronx.

I got up in the AM and went to the dentist. Teeth cleaned. Bought a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers and ate breakfast at The Mercer Kitchen, where I sat next to Robert Downey Jr. and his handlers. He was very thin and sweet and we chatted about sneakers. His were sick! Gray patent leather high-tops.

Went to Moss, Moroso, saw Brin, was joined by Karley Nelson, who manages to look sexy 7 months pregnant. Shopped a lot: Paul Smith, Moss, Alessi. Went to her house and went over decorations, window coverings, etc. Left here, headed home, and went to the gym. Ate by myself at the diner a block away. Answered questions from people on eBay, as I am selling a lot of my clothes there this week.

Ran 6 miles in the morning. Worked and met Leslie Simboli and Ben at Club Monaco and bought like 5 pairs of pants and another new suit. Then stopped at Flatiron DWR, chilled at home, and got sushi for dinner. The most annoying guy at the restaurant called his friend and said "we're just getting some sush." "Sush?" I don't know why but for some reason that pissed me off. A lot.

Les and Ben went to a bar. I went to bed.
