Welcome to Bradford Shellhammer Creative Workshop. I tackle many expressive fields: Writing. Decorating. Art sourcing. Illustration. Blogging. Consulting. Marketing. Art direction. Photography. Styling. I can take on any creative endeavor imaginable.
I live in New York City, hail from Baltimore, and count the quirky sensibilities of each as influences. I hold degrees from Goucher College and from Parsons The New School for Design.
I am Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Fab, Inc., working alongside serial entrepreneur Jason Goldberg and noted graphic designer Veerle Pieters.
I write for Sundance Channel and Full Frontal Fashion alongside Robert Redford, Michael Musto, Elvis Costello, Paula Froelich, Lynn Yaeger, and Patrick McMullan. At Full Frontal Fashion I lense Who_What_Where?, a photo series documenting street style, interview notable designers and celebrities, and write essays on design and the arts. I am a contributor to Dwell and I have kept a personal blog since 2000 (yes, that long). I was the founding editor of Queerty, where I won a Bloggie award. I developed and was the dominant voice of Design Within Reach's Design Notes blog. I also penned the Design Notes newsletter, following in the footsteps of DWR founder Rob Forbes, iconic mid-century designer Jens Risom, and the button-pushing illustrator James Victore.
I launched two retail concepts: one for Design Within Reach and another for Blu Dot.
As a decorator with a keen sense of color I've designed apartments of all sizes. I excel in piecing rooms together, telling stories through collections, and sourcing furniture and art. My own homes have been featured in The New York Times and Dwell.
I developed collaborations between Parsons students and American furniture manufacturers Heller and Emeco, resulting in exhibitions showcasing the student designs. I conceptualized the project and critiqued the work in the Parsons classroom. I have also begun curating a series of charitiable art auctions with my friend David Mason Chlopecki featuring art from such iconic names as Helmut Lang, Joey Arias, and Francois Sagat.
I have a wicked fascination with others and have interviewed everyone from figure skater Johnny Weir to pop icon Cyndi Lauper to Warhol Superstar Holly Woodlawn. I continue to document these interviews here in the workshop and in various other websites and magazines.
